In 2021 we were introduced to the theatrical and hauntingly creative electro-pop artist Maya Yenn who has just put out the long-awaited music video for her most recent release “How Much Sadness can You Swallow”. 

The song itself is awash with gothic and at times, archaic language and sonic expressions, which create this gorgeously dramatic feeling throughout, especially when matched with the spooky sci-fi cinematic choices in the video. Self-directed, the ‘How Much Sadness Can You Swallow’ music video follows our protagonist, confused but determined, sprinting to face the forthcoming alien invasion head-on. 

Themes of distorted reality, fear and heroism, and mysterious floating diamonds are what elevates Maya’s work far beyond your typical music video, and begs the question, what the hell happens next and how can we get Steven Moffat involved in a feature-length film? Maya Yenn is quickly establishing herself as an artist hell-bent on high-quality musical experiences, and I can’t wait to see hats next
